West Indies and Guyana under-19 batsman, Matthew Nandu registered a century over the weekend as he made his return to cricket in Canada.
Playing in the Mississauga Cricket League, Nandu turned out for the Royal Panthers Toronto and inspired them to a 165-run win over RC 99 in the 50-over competition.
Panthers won the toss and opted to take first strike where they piled on 295 for six in their full quota before limiting RC 99 to 130 all out in 32.2 overs.
Nandu, who represented West Indies in the recent ICC under-19 World Cup, clubbed four fours and two sixes during his 125-ball innings where he scored 110. Nandu added 119 for the opening partnership with Sumit Arora who made 63 from 76 balls. His innings featured six four and six before being bowled by Raza Washeed (2-20).
Nandu then added 102 for the second wicket alongside his captain, Varun Sehdev who made 39 from 45 balls. Sehdev clubbed four boundaries before Yasir Abbasi (3-64) pegged the innings with three quick strikes.
Harshit Sharma and Sheel Patel chipped in with 25 and 23 respectively while extras contributed 25.
Sehdev returned with the ball to stifle RC 99’s chase by taking 3-20. He was supported by Vikrant Sharma, Ukani Vasu and Sanchit Ramnath with two wickets each.
Asghar Hotak, batting at number nine top scored with 39 from 34 balls as he struck five fours and two sixes. Sandeep Thind (22), Waheed (21) and Ali Nadeem (14) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.
