On Thursday 26th May, the theatre community was saddened, once more, by the passing of another stalwart in the industry.
Patricia Gomes, fondly known by everyone as “Patty” was a member of The Theatre Guild back in the 1960’s and performed in many plays , ‘Tea house of the August Moon’, ‘Home at Seven’, ‘Night Box’ and the many Brink Shows. She performed in the last Brink Show in 1979. She was always favoured in these shows as one of the two characters in the ‘Over the Fence ‘ skit and made her performance in ‘The joys of riding a bicycle’ very memorable and joyful to watch. Her trademark in every production she was involved in, was to write a parody of the production, which she would deliver in her own inimitable style, to all, at the end-of- production cast party. The cast and crew always looked forward to that and enjoyed hearing about themselves through the eyes of “aunty Patty”
She was also a story teller at the Public Library and radio for many years, entertaining the younger generation.
When The Theatre Company was formed, she performed in ‘Cactus Flower’.
Her dedication and commitment to the theatre and storytelling were unsurpassed. Unfortunately her ailing health over the past decade did not allow her to continue her passion.
We salute you and thank you today, Patty, for your contribution over the years.
