The Guyana Police Force has made a commitment to bear the funeral expenses for 46-year-old Brian Knight of Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara who was found hanging in a cell where he was held at the Leonora Police Station on May 30th, 2022.
A statement from the police today said that Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ (ag), Calvin Brutus said discussions were held with Knight’s relatives, after which a commitment was made by the GPF to stand the funeral expenses.
Brutus noted that this decision was made “purely on humanitarian grounds” and should in no way be construed as any admission of culpability on the part of the GPF.
The Guyana Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility and the Police Complaints Authority are currently conducting separate and impartial investigations into the death of Knight, the statement said.
