The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF), has officially announced its 12-member squad for the International Federation of Association Basketball (FIBA) Centrobasket U-15 Championship in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, from June 18 to 22.
This was disclosed by an official GABF release. The team which is scheduled to depart Guyana on June 16, comprises: Giovanni Tracey (Bartica), Yaneil Easton (Linden), Ezeke Leacock (Linden), Marion Fiedtkou (Georgetown), Ezekiel Griffith (Georgetown), Kalani Howard (Georgetown), Stephen Carter (New Amsterdam), Cayden Pydana (New Amsterdam), Ezekiel Saul (East Coast Demerara), Dejaun Grant (East Coast Demerara), Keron Phillips (Aroaima), and Hayden Sampson (Kwakwani).
Lugard Mohan will serve as the head-coach, while Troy Alex Graham will act in the capacity of team manager.
Guyana has been drawn in group-B alongside Panama, Bahamas, and the host nation. Meanwhile, group-A contains Costa Rica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
All matches will be staged at the Fernando Hernandez Coliseum. The top two finishers from each section will progress to the semi-final round, with the remaining sides battling for positions 5 to 8 in a classification tournament.
“In the Semi-Finals, the top two teams from each group will face the second team of each opposing group (1A vs 2B and 1B vs 2A). The Semi-Final winners will qualify for the gold medal game, while the losers will play for third place and the bronze medal. The three best teams at the end of the tournament will qualify for the FIBA U16 Americas Championship in 2023,” the release added.
