The calendar has swiftly flipped to June. We are already at the halfway mark for 2022 and perhaps, for some of you, that New Year’s Resolution vigor and drive might have dwindled or died. It happens. You simply need a bit of encouragement and empowerment.
To empower ourselves we need urgency, self-discipline, clear and precise goals, a supportive environment and a healthy lifestyle encompassing balanced nutritional and training habits.
Here are a few tips to empower yourself this month:
Set a date to perform a task
Setting a date to perform a task or a deadline, if you like, will allow you to test yourself. You can measure the outcome of the goal you set. Examples of this could include a photoshoot, a competition, a body scan or a skin fold test with a trainer. Any of these would put you in varying degrees of vulnerability and challenge you. But these are perfect tasks to book, as they will keep you focused and motivated. This no doubt creates urgency and will make you think twice about missing a training session or eating an extra serving of dessert.
Get enough vitamins and minerals
Empowering yourself also includes having a strong mental frame of mind and that is associated with consuming adequate vitamins and minerals. To get these in, I recommend eating healthy balanced meals throughout the day, with as much variety of vegetables as possible.
Hire a fitness professional
Too often, people head to the gym and follow a fitness plan pulled off of Google instead of hiring the services of a fitness professional, who is accredited in writing meal plans personalized to their lifestyle, body shape and the specific goals they are trying to achieve. In doing so, they sometimes neglect the fact that nutrition and the correct techniques of training are the key to achieving results. On the other hand, they might find it too complicated to get right with the many conflicting sources and theories out there and unprofessional help.
Involve a training partner
This makes training a whole lot more fun as it doubles as a social occasion but also significantly improves the chances of you turning up to your training sessions as you keep each other accountable and wouldn’t want to let one another down.
Focus on the small wins
Applaud yourself for sticking to the processes. Celebrate each training session you followed through with, each healthy meal you prepared and consumed. Give yourself plenty of positive self talk along the way.
