A 26-year-old Bartica resident is wanted by the police in relation to the discovery of several high-powered weapons in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
In a wanted bulletin issued yesterday, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that Navindra Ramsammy also known as ‘Bandit’ or ‘Criminal’ is wanted for questioning over the possession of a firearm and ammunition on May 31st and June 4th.
Ramsammy, whose last known address is Lot 32 First Avenue, Bartica is also wanted for break and enter and larceny, the police said.
Last Tuesday, the police who were responding to a report of someone indiscriminately discharging a firearm found a Rockriver 5.56 mm rifle with 27 rounds at Blackwater Backdam, Cuyuni River
In a statement, the police had said that when ranks arrived in the Backdam, they contacted the person who made the report.
Based on information received, the ranks were taken to the camp where the man accused of discharging the firearm was located.
Upon approaching him, the ranks observed a rifle in his hand and upon seeing the ranks, he dropped the rifle and fled into the nearby bushes.
He was pursued by the ranks but they were unable to apprehend him.
A few days after, the police recovered several other high-powered weapons as they were tracking down the suspect.
In a separate statement, the police had said that ranks acting on information received about the suspect’s whereabouts went to a mining camp around 15:00hrs last Saturday.
However, upon arrival at the camp, the suspect had already fled.
The camp owner was questioned and he indicated that the suspect who is known to him went to his camp the previous night. He had four firearms in a bag and told the camp owner that he needed money.
The camp owner said the suspect buried the firearms at three different locations on the camp ground and then slept the night.
The camp owner identified the areas to the police ranks who dug up the said areas and found one Rickover 5.56 MM rifle, one Benelli ARMI rifle, one 13 gauge Magnum Shotgun, one FN Rifle and thirty seven (37) .223 rounds of ammunition.
