The driver in the accident that claimed the life of Reonol Williams has confessed to police that he was behind the wheel of the vehicle at the time, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum tonight said.
Earlier in the day the decomposed body of Williams was found by investigators in a trench in the vicinity of Coldingen Koker, East Coast Demerara.
The driver, Daniel Melbourne, was rearrested this morning by investigators. He had been initially questioned by police but later released on bail. He had claimed he was not the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Reonol called ‘Ram’ was struck down by motor car, PAB 2552 at Enmore Estate Road, ECD during the wee hours of May 23. At the time, he was returning home after dropping off his younger sister in Georgetown.
Commissioner of Police (ag) Clifton Hicken yesterday met with the family of Reonol Williams.
Williams’ sister, Sylvie Williams yesterday told Stabroek News that during the brief meeting, Hicken also outlined all the actions the police have taken from the initial stage of the investigation.
The family was also told that they will be provided with an update within the next 48 hours. “He said within the next 48 hours the Crime Chief will call me. So I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. I am waiting on the call,” Sylvie said.
