Police have arrested four suspects, one of whom fatally stabbed a 23-year-old security guard yesterday morning at East Ruimveldt Squatting Area, Georgetown over an old feud.
Dead is Carol Davidson, a mother of two of East La Penitence Squatting Area.
Davidson was dealt several lashes about her body and stabbed once during the incident which took place around 10.25 am.
Director of the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit, Mark Ramotar last night confirmed that the four suspects, including three females, ages 20, 28 and 29 had been arrested and are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
They all hail from East La Penitence Squatting Area. Georgetown. Two of the three women are said to be sisters.
In a press release issued last night, the police said enquiries revealed that Davidson was consuming alcohol with a group of friends when she was attacked by the suspects.
According to the police, Davidson and the suspects had an old misunderstanding which led to a fight on Sunday.
Yesterday, while she was in the East Ruimveldt Squatting area, the suspects entered the yard and attacked her, the police said.
As a result, a scuffle ensued during which Davidson was dealt several lashes about her body.
Davidson managed to escape but was pursued by the suspects. “The suspects, one of whom was later seen with a knife in her right hand, all ran out of the yard..,” the police said.
Davidson was subsequently found lying face down on the ground behind the house. She was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
When Stabroek News visited the scene, eyewitnesses said the incident happened within a short span of time.
One eyewitness who wished not to be named said Davidson was standing in front of the house in the presence of several friends when the male suspect arrived. “A boy come, using assertion like yall (expletive) she up, nobody can’t do yall nothing,” the woman said.
She said the three women then approached Davidson and launched the attack. “The three girl corner she (Davidson). One ah the girl lash she, so by time she slip…One ah them rackle she and they bore she,” the eyewitness said.
She added that Davidson ran behind the house to escape and she collapsed. “After the girl run and gone behind deh (the house) we thought she gone. We ain’t know she run around and fall at the back deh but after the scene and everything we decide to go see and we meet she laying down,” the woman explained.
The woman related that Davidson told her that she and the suspects had a feud on Sunday night and they tried to attack her. However, she managed to escape. “They had some problem going on. The four ah them run she the night before (Sunday)…She had to run away,” she said.
“This girl keep telling me about the problem…..They advantage she the night before (Sunday) and she had to run away and run through East La Penitence to avoid them,” another eyewitness, who goes by the alias ‘Mama’ told Stabroek News.
The woman explained that she saw Davidson yesterday morning and she asked her if she was going to the East Ruimveldt Squatting Area.
‘Mama’ said she told Davidson yes but not immediately and she went without her. “She seh I go beat out and left you…you will come and reach me deh”.
Shortly after, ‘Mama’ said it started to rain heavily but she eventually went and met Davidson.
Whilst at the house, she explained that the male suspect arrived first followed by the three females. “When they done juk she up they seh they done (expletive) she up. Me ain’t know Carol get juk yet you know. When me ain’t see Carol coming out from around duh house is I seh `wait man Carol run at the back, how she ain’t come around yet’? They keep hollering Carol jump fence, Carol do this….I seh me ain’t want hear duh I want see,” she said.
As such, she went behind the house to check for Davidson when she discovered her lifeless body. “When you go around, Carol deh right deh. Is like she did coming around back to them and collapse. I see Carol jersey got a mark right hay (as she pointed to the area where she was stabbed)….Right away I get nervous, nervous. Everything happen to me right away,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Davidson’s brother, Mark Davidson said his sister and other individuals would get into problems from time to time but she would “deal with it” on her own.
He said Davidson never told him that she was having any issues with the male suspect. However, he was aware that she and the female suspects had a misunderstanding. “The girl dem does always want problem with she so she does deal with them,” he said.
Mark said he was asleep when his younger brother woke him up and told him that Davidson was dead. “Is me lil brother wah really come and bang me door and tell me Carol dead. I ask he ‘wah you mean Carol dead?’ and in me sleep I spring up,” he related.
