Dear Editor,
Those who know better must continue to be quite disappointed with the quality of the texts of some of GuySuCo’s Vacancy Notices as published:
Civil Engineer – Factory
‘The candidate will be positioned at Factory Operations Department, Head Office’. The cane qualifications required range from a First Degree to a Diploma in Civil Engineering, with experience (however unrelated) of five to three years respectively. Hopefully as a newcomer to the sugar industry the recruit will be placed on probation, during which time will undergo an intensive induction programme at GuySuCo’s two remaining operating factories, from which it would appear there are no transferable or promotable human resources.
Mechanical Engineer
This position is located in a Factory, preferably not at Uitvlugt Estate, for the recruit will have to learn from working with a team, who must be required to monitor and report in detail on performance over a specified period including both crop and non-crop. Interesting in this case the First Degree only is acceptable, without any experience; while for the counterpart Civil Engineer at the Head Office a Diploma is declared to be acceptable, even though this position should be advisory to any Factory Engineer; but also Factory Managers.
Meanwhile a diligent interviewee should sensitively remark the fact that the last of the Main Duties and Responsibilities ‘Planned Maintenance and other checks’ should read ‘are’ instead of ‘is’ executed. Leaders must insist on attention to detail.
Sincerely,
(Name and Address Provided)
