University of Guyana (UG) defeated previously undefeated Government Technical Institute (GTI) 69-66 to clinch the inaugural Youth Basketball Guyana ‘Tertiary League’ on Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
Shaquawn Gill, who was eventually crowned the event’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), recorded a double-double of 12 points, and 10 rebounds. He ended the tournament with an overall average of 25.6 points, and 12.4 rebounds.
Timothy Richmond supported with 17 points, and 10 rebounds, while Thariq Duncan assisted with 12 points and six rebounds. Adding eight points and 15 rebounds was Craig Harlequin.
For GTI, Rayon Shortt amassed 20 points, and seven rebounds, while Josiah Roberts chipped in with 17 points, and Kobe Tappin added 11 points and five rebounds.
In the third-place encounter, New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) edged Linden Technical Institute (LTI) 67-66. Charles Williams recorded 21 points, and eight rebounds, whilst Kadeem Dover registered 13 points and 10 rebounds. Qwesi Joseph added nine points and 11 rebounds.
For LTI, Shamar Savory tallied 22 points, and 15 rebounds, while Jemol Semple and Gaius George scored 18, and 14 points respectively.
