A Kitty man yesterday ended his life with a single gunshot just as police turned up at his residence to detain him in relation to a domestic violence report.

The deceased has been identified as Jermaine Simon, a 41-year-old security officer of William Street, Kitty, Georgetown.

The dead man’s common law wife, Rosanna Clarke, yesterday told reporters that she went to the police station yesterday afternoon to file a report against him. She stated that on Monday night, Simon physically abused her and threatened to end her life. Clarke said he also told her that if she went to the police station and reported the matter he would retaliate against the police and end his life.

“Well, last night when he was beating me with the gun; he said that he will kill me and if I survive and I take him to the police, police will get a shootout with him or he will kill himself,” she recalled.

Yesterday, she explained that she left under the guise of going to work but went to the police station instead.

In shock and disbelief, she told reporters that when she returned home in the police vehicle and the officer stepped out of the car, she heard an explosion which she suspected to be a gunshot.

“I come in the police vehicle, and the police went in the passageway to go up to our place, and then I heard a gunshot.”

She subsequently saw the gun and spent shell, and Simon’s body lying motionless on the ground.
