Jayden Cheeffoon, the boy who was struck down by a hire car back in February, has succumbed to his injuries.
The death of the 7-year-old was confirmed yesterday by Commander of Region Five, Senior Superintendent Kurleigh Simon. He related that the child died sometime between Thursday and Friday of last week.
In February, the police had reported that the lad was in a critical condition following the accident which he was involved in, on Sunday, February 13, along Lovely Lass Public Road, West Coast Berbice (WCB).
Cheeffoon was struck down by motorcar HC 9812 and the driver was identified as 50-year-old Joseph Warde.
The police stated that on the day of the accident, Warde was proceeding west along the southern side of the same road at about 75 kph, when he claimed that the child suddenly ran north, across the road, from behind a parked car and into his path.
The driver said he tried to apply the brakes but the front portion of his motorcar came into contact with the boy causing him to sustain severe injuries.
According to police, acting on advice from the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Warde was never charged.
The family of the deceased took to Facebook where they expressed their dissatisfaction at the injustice faced by their loved one. One family member, Leticia Kissoonchand, said that her little cousin had suffered from broken shoulders and ribs, along with various organs being punctured and cerebral edema.
