Dear Editor,
Another boat tragedy. The boat captain whose body was found in a fuel tank, allegedly overcome by fumes in the tank (SN June 7), begs the question was he outfitted with the requisite protective gear, particularly breathing apparatus? From all indications this did not seem to be the case. Too many lives are being lost in work environments, especially in sensitive ones as this, due to carelessness and negligence to health and safety standards and practices.
The still missing boat and crew comes to mind.
My condolences are extended to the grieving family.
Yours faithfully,
Shamshun Mohamed
