Two persons were yesterday charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition after being busted by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU).
Terry Joseph and Shabanam Pitamber were arraigned at the George-town Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rondel Weaver and pleaded not guilty to the two charges.
The charge states that on June 4, 2022, at Homestretch Avenue in Georgetown, they had in their possession a firearm, that is to say a .380 Lorcin, semi-automatic pistol, with neither of them being the holder of a firearm licence.
The duo, on the said date and address, was accused of also having in their possession matching rounds of ammunition.
Pitamber was released on $100,000 bail, while Joseph was remanded.
The matter was adjourn-ed until July 6, 2022.
CANU had initially reported that on the same day, officers conducted an operation at the Square of the Revolution, Home-stretch Avenue, where they intercepted a motor vehicle with two occupants.
A search was carried out on the vehicle which led to the discovery of a Lorcin .380 semi-automatic pistol, with a magazine and ammunition.
