The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) flagship national senior championships which were scheduled to be held this weekend has been postponed to June 24-26.
The nation’s premier athletes will have to wait a bit longer to compete in the annual calendar event due to the unavailability of the National Track and Field Centre to the association this weekend.
The hosting of the CONCACAF Nations League matches are currently underway at the facility in Leonora.
Guyana’s national men’s football team will tackle Haiti on Saturday following a 2-1 win against Bermuda in League B action on Tuesday night.
According to President of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson, the athletes will have some more time to peak ahead of the three-day marquee fixture.
When the athletes do spring into action, bragging rights, medals, cash incentives and a chance to represent Guyana at the World Championships will all be up for grabs.
With the World Athletics Championships starting July 15, in Eugene, Oregon, USA, the upcoming weeks promise a lot of excitement in track and field.
Even before the big-ticket event starts, top athletes from all over the world will be
busy trying to earn a direct ticket to the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 before the qualification window closes this month end.
Hutson stated that he expects a huge turnout and a high calibre weekend of races, throws and jumps.
Usual suspects like Emanuel Archibald, Keliza Smith, Daniel Williams, Natricia and Natrena Hooper, Chantoba Bright, Leslain Baird and others are scheduled to do battle on the track and in the field.
