A half century from Chinelle Henry followed up by a five-wicket haul by Neisha Ann Waisome, helped Jamaica Women register a first-round win over Trinidad and Tobago Women in the CG Insurance T20 Blaze Tuesday night.
Jamaica batted with intent under lights at the National Stadium, Providence and posted 133 for six from their allotted overs. It looked like Trinidad were playing on a different surface as they were rolled over for 55 in 13.3 overs.
Henry smacked seven boundaries during her 38-ball 52 before being dismissed leg before wicket to Karishma Ramharack off the final delivery of the innings.
Henry added 43 runs for the fourth wicket with Chedean Nation who was happy to turn over the strike during her 23-ball 11.
Jamaica also got a solid contribution from Natasha McLean who clubbed five boundaries during her 27-ball 30 before being caught and bowled by Caniesha Isaac who also dismissed Rashada Williams (10).
Stafanie Taylor chipped in with 14 from 16 balls but was dismissed by Steffie Soogrim playing her first senior women’s match for her country. Notably, Soogrim has represented West Indies A Women.
In the chase, Kirbyina Alexander was the only batter to reach double figures with 12. Waisome was the pick of the bowlers with 5-8. She was supported by Henry who returned to take 2-20.
Jamaica will take on Windward Islands in the final match today under lights while Guyana and Trinidad will look to get a win under their belts today in the first match.
Defending champions, Barbados will battle Leeward Islands in the other match of the day. All matches will be played at Providence.
