Attorneyat-law Nirvan Singh was yesterday faced with a new private charge alleging that he unlawfully assaulted former Police Constable Shawnette Bollers.
The 35-year-old attorney was arraigned before Magistrate Leron Daly in a Georgetown court, where he pleaded not guilty to the new private criminal charge.
The charge states that on March 20, 2022, at Middle and Cummings streets, Georgetown, Singh unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Bolllers.
Following his plea, he was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 and the matter was adjourned until July 6, 2022.
The new charge was filed on June 3 by Bollers under the supervision and guidance of her attorney, Eusi Anderson.
The filing of the new charge follows on the heels of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Shalimar Ali-Hack discontinuing another private criminal charge against Singh, who was accused by Bollers of racial hostility.
The charge was discontinued by the DPP on the grounds that it was not consistent with Section 2 of the Racial Hostility Act.
Bollers has filed a defamation suit against the attorney. In her statement of claim, she has said that while on duty at the home of his father, retired Chancellor Carl Singh on the night of March 20, when the accused approached and chased her off the property.
She said that the incident occurred at approximately 22:13 hrs that night and she was forced to immediately abandon her post and duties, having to walk for a couple of miles to another location “in the dark of night alone.”
Bollers also said that Singh in a “loud and aggressive” manner berated her for about quarter of an hour, then began using a series of defamatory words and racist expressions.
Singh has said the conduct alleged by Bollers do not reflect his philosophy or personal values. “More importantly, it would be an indictment on my parents and elders, given their efforts to ensure that my upbringing would produce in me a person of the highest moral, ethical, and professional conduct,” he has said in a statement.
He has also indicated that he would not comment further on the allegations as the matter is sub judice.
