A small fire erupted in the Charlestown Secondary School laboratory on Friday. Smoke was seen emanating from the room and the Guyana Fire Service quickly responded. According the Fire Prevention Officer Sheldon Sauns, the Guyana Fire Service received a call at about 07:38 hrs, alerting it about the fire at the school. Four fire tenders responded from the Central Fire Station, Campbelville Fire Station and the West Ruimveldt Fire Station. He stated that the fire originated from an experiment in the laboratory by the mixing of chemicals. Samples were taken to the forensic lab for testing. No injuries were reported.
