Jamaica Women, despite having the same amount of points as Barbados, surged to the top of the T20 Blaze table after beating the Windward Islands by 25 runs in another low scoring affair yesterday.
Playing their second match under lights at the National Stadium, Providence, Jamaica took first strike but were routed for 91 in 19.3 overs. However, despite the low score, their bowlers managed to shoot out the Windwards for 66 in 16.4 overs.
The dangerous Natasha McLean was trapped leg before wicket to left-arm seamer, Jannillea Glasgow who enters the next match on a hat-trick after removing Jerona Walcott and Tameka Sanford off of successive deliveries to end with 4-21.
The 39-year-old Pearl Etienne and the 35-year-old Afy Fletcher bagged two wickets each to complement Glasgow.
Rashada Williams top scored with 25 from 42 balls while skipper, Stafanie Taylor, struck three boundaries during her 22-ball 18 before being bowled by Qiana Joseph (1-6).
Chinelle Henry (12) and Chedean Nation (10) were the only other batters to reach double figures while extras accounted for 11.
In the chase, Jodi-Ann Morgan was the pick of the bowlers with 3-15 and was supported by off-spinners, Vanessa Watts (2-5) and Taylor (2-17).
Jamaica gifted 16 extras but the Windwards batters did little towards the cause. Fletcher top scored with a 24-ball 20 and Akeira Peters made 11. No other batter reached double figures.
Jamaica and Barbados are tied on eight points each with Jamaica having a superior net run rate.
Windwards are on four points with Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago are locked on two points each. The Leeward Islands are yet to get on the board after losing both their matches.
The Windwards will take on Barbados in the first match today while Jamaica will face Guyana in the second match. The third round will then close off with Trinidad facing Leewards under lights.
