The Petra Organization officially launched its return to play calendar of football activities and programmes for the remainder of 2022 on Thursday evening at the Cara Lodge Hotel, Quamina Street.
The storied organization was forced to shutdown its developmental school initiatives for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The resumption is set to commence on June 18th with the continuation of the Milo Secondary School Championship.
The other events that are on the agenda for commencement are the GuyOil Tradewind Tankers School League, ExxonMobil Boys and Girls Under-14, Courts Pee Wee, Smalta Girls Pee Wee, KFC Goodwill tournament, Corona Beer Futsal, Limacol round-robin knockout, and Turbo knockout football.
Petra Organization Co-Director, Troy Mendonca, said that the continued objective of the entity is to create the platform for future national players, adding that several Golden Jaguars internationals have featured in the previous editions of their respective tournaments.
Meanwhile, Physical Education Officer Kurt Braithwaite, who spoke on behalf of the Ministry of Education, said, “The Petra Organization would have come on board with a great initiative to keep the young people active and focused on what is most important. Based on that, the ministry is very happy to collaborate with the organization, in order to assist with everything.”
Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Member of Services Officer, Franklin Wilson, praised the organization for its continued emphasis on youth football, as it aids the local governing body’s mandate to develop the discipline.
“GFF would like to remind this gathering that football belongs to all of us and it is in this spirit that his (Wayne Forde’s) administration continues to create an enabling environment that allows all stakeholders to participate and contribute to the development of the game and our young people,” he declared.
