With the Government of Guyana saying that it has done all it can to lower fuel price increases, the public is about to face the fallout from another significant hike in gas prices.
The removal of the last tranche of the excise tax on fuel was announced on March 23rd 2022 by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), cutting the tax from 10% to 0%.
Despite this and with rising international prices linked to the war in Ukraine, in the month of May the price of fuel increased. In recent days, gas prices have gone even higher.
