Barbados women moved one step closer to retaining their Cricket West Indies T20 Blaze title after beating their closest competition, Jamaica, by 25 runs yesterday at the National Stadium, Providence.
Batting first, the defending champions reached 129 for four from their full quota before restricting Jamaica to 104 for six by the time their overs expired and effectively handing them their first loss.
Barbados captain, Hayley Matthews showed she is a cut above the rest with an unbeaten 74 from 63 balls.
Matthews struck nine boundaries and added 50 for the first wicket with Kycia Knight who stroked two boundaries during her 19-ball 14 before being bowled by Stafanie Taylor (1-17).
Knight’s twin sister, Kyshona, chipped in with 10 from 17 balls while a hefty extras total of 19 propped up the Bajan’s tally. Corrine Howell was the most impactful bowler with 2-17 while Vanessa Watts bagged 1-10.
In the second match Trinidad and Tobago secured a one-run win over Windward Islands. Trinidad posted 88 for eight in their quota and limited Windwards to 87 for seven.
Trinidads’ Britney Cooper stood head and shoulders above the other batters with a top score of 47 not out from 41 balls. Her innings featured five boundaries.
Cooper got support from Anisa Mohammed who made 19 from 24 balls. Her innings featured three boundaries before coming to an end at the hands of left arm seamer, Jannillea Glasgow (1-17).
Quiana Joseph ripped through the top order to end with 3-10 while Pearl Etienne picked up 2-17.
Mohammed returned to pick up 2-16 as Leandra Ramdeen, Kamara Ragoobar, Kirbyina Alexander and Karishma Ramharack bowled economical and managed to pick up a wicket each.
Zaida James was left stranded on 28 not out from 35 balls while Afy Fletcher chipped in with 16 before being stumped by Reniece Boyce off of Ramdeen.
Joseph and Stacy-Ann Adams were the only other two batters to reach double figures with 13 respectively.
