Keron Hope, 25, yesterday appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court charged with the murder of Mariam Edwards, 26, in Puruni, Region Seven between June 8 to 9 this year.
A release yesterday from the police said that an autopsy performed on the woman showed that she died by manual strangulation compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
The post-mortem examination was conducted on June 13, 2022 by Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh.
Edwards of Lethem was murdered at the Kumung Kumung Backdam, Puruni River, where she was employed as a cook. Hope of Middle Street, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, who was subsequently arrested, admitted to murdering the woman, the police said. The woman’s body was recovered after Hope took police ranks to where he said he had dumped the body, a short distance away from the mining camp where the woman was employed.
Hope appeared yesterday before Magistrate Crystal Lambert where the charge was read to him.
He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned until 2022/06/30.
