President’s College and the Bishops’ High School recorded impressive wins in the boys U16 category when pre-season matches in the Regional Section of the National School Basketball Festival (NSBF) commenced.
Hosted at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, and President’s College brushed aside Queen’s College 37-19. Dejaun Grant tallied 13 points and four rebounds while Abel Ward scored six points and 15 rebounds. For the losers, Francois Myers scored seven points and nine rebounds.
Similarly, Bishops’ High crushed Marian Academy 43-16. Yaniel Easton led the rout with 17 points and eight rebounds while Keyan Mars had nine points and four rebounds. For Marian Academy, Marion Fiedtkou scored 10 points and had nine rebounds.
In other encounters, Chase Academy and Covent Garden were the winners. Chase Academy downed West Demerara 33-24. Paul Emmanuel scored 27 points. For the losers, Jonathan Richard had 12 points and seven rebounds.
In a low-scoring encounter, Covent Garden edged North Georgetown 16-12. Jonathan Giddings registered 12 points in the win while Gladwyn Bruntis netted eight points for the losers.
In the lone girl’s match, GT Academy dismantled President’s College 36-4. Kassidy Woolford amassed 18 points, while Sharay Johnson scored 16 points in the victory.
The pre-season matches will continue on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and June 26th in Georgetown, with matches penciled in for Berbice June 24th and Linden June 25th. The NSBF is scheduled to start on July 1st.
