Hardball’s 1-0 win stands out amongst drawn encounters

On a night highlighted by drawn results, Hardball defeated Eshu 1-0 when the 3rd  Mocha Village Cup continued Tuesday evening at the Basketball Tarmac.

Jaheem Lewis was on target in the only result which produced a winner on the evening.

Meanwhile, Goal Getters and Upsetters contested a 1-1 stalemate. Eon Mars scored for Goal Getters while Leon Yaw netted for Upsetters.

Similarly, Top Man Squad and Ancient County battled to a 1-1 draw. Sammy McKenzie found the back of the net for Top Man Squad whilst Akeem Sam scored for Ancient County. Likewise, Strike Force and City featured in a 1-1 draw.

Steffon Ramsay made his presence felt for Strike Force with a conversion while Jermaine James found the back of the net for City.

Also, Ballerz Empire and BackStreet played to a scoreless affair while Gold Strikers and Road Warriors battled to a 0-0 score.

Lyliton Ramsay, coordinator of the tournament during a brief comment said, “The tournament is going great so far, we are getting the turn out and support, and the games are very entertaining. It’s a family event and a village event, and it brings together the East Bank villages.”

He added, “We have been doing it for three years, and we have seen gradual improvement, we keep trying to get the community involved and influence the youths in a positive way and look to go from strength to strength. We are getting support from the businesses in the village and NDC as well.”

The event continues today at the same venue with another round of matches. In the opening match, TopMan Squad will battle Back Street from 19:00hrs. The fixture will serve as a playoff as both teams finished the group round on the same points and goal differential, as well as drawn when they placed each other.

In the second match, Red Force will engage Men at Work at 19:30hrs while Agricola will tackle Stabroek Ballerz at 20:00hrs and Dell Superbet will face off with Xtra Mature from 20:30hrs. Unruly will then match skills with Touches at 21:00hrs with Slugs locking horns with One ‘n’ Move at 21:00hrs and Family opposing Lack Ah Scene from 21:30hrs.
