A Berbice rape complainant who ingested a poisonous substance died on Wednesday night – hours after the accused was remanded on the charge of rape.
According to information gathered, the minor died around 9.15 on Wednesday night at a Corentyne medical facility.
The accused, Ameer Inshanally, 30, a hire car driver of Sand Reef Albion, Corentyne, appeared at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh where he was charged with the rape of a child under sixteen years on June 6th at Albion, Corentyne.
He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison. Inshanally will return to the Albion Magistrate’s Court on July 13 for report.
The complainant had remained critical while she was hospitalized, as according to relatives the 15-year-old was unable to breathe on her own.
According to information gathered, the complainant told investigators who interviewed her at the hospital that on June, 6 she was heading home from school when the accused stopped for her.
However, she said that the accused instead of stopping at the junction of her street drove past although she repeatedly insisted that he stop and put her off on the main road.
She further relayed to investigators that the accused drove through a dam at Albion, Corentyne, where he exited the driver’s seat and entered the backseat where she was after which he proceeded to sexually assault her despite her pleas for him to stop.
He said he then drove the car to New Amsterdam and dropped her off at the head of her street.
