`Unfinished business’ Futsal to kick off tomorrow

The Magnum ‘Unfinished Business’ Futsal Championship, which is slated to commence tomorrow at the National Park tarmac on Thomas Lands, was officially launched yesterday at the ANSA McAl headquarters, Beterverwagting (BV), East Coast Demerara.

The one-day event comprises the top four sides from the Magnum Independence Cup. They are Defending champion Back Circle, Sparta Boss, Gold is Money, and Bent Street.

The first matchup at 20:00hrs will pit Back Circle against Gold is Money, with Sparta Boss engaging Bent Streets at 21:00hrs. Winners of the aforesaid matches will advance to the final, while the losers will contest the third place playoff.

$300,000 will be awarded to the eventual winner of the tournament, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will pocket $150,000, $100,000, and 50,000 correspondingly.

Tournament coordinator Edison Jefford said that  the  competition provides the definitive replay of the previous event, adding that security of the patrons following discussions and collaboration with the Guyana Police Force, remain the priority for the night’s proceedings.

He further said that the incident-free nature of the previous tournament is an objective that the organizing team is aiming towards, adding that quality matches are expected given the calibre of teams that will be in contention for the prestigious title.

Meanwhile, Jamal Baird, Magnum brand manager, revealed that the overwhelming success of the prior competition necessitated the staging of the one-day event, noting that all systems are in place for a monumental night of Futsal action.

Lucozade Brand Manager, Triston Freeman disclosed that the brand has developed a strong community and grassroots movement, and that the continued partnership with the event was an easy decision given the support afforded to the previous competition.
