Princess Hotel guard arrested after shooting co-worker

A supernumerary constable was taken into police custody on Thursday after he allegedly shot one of his co-workers during a disagreement in the parking lot of the Ramada Princess Hotel and Casino.

The victim has been identified as Junior Mohan, 30.

Mohan was shot once to his leg. He was rushed to a city hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. His condition is now listed as stable.

Police yesterday confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the shooting, which took place around 15.50 hrs.

Reports are that both the suspect and Mohan are employed by a Sheriff Street-based private security service, which is contracted by Ramada Princess Hotel and Casino.

According to the police, investigations revealed that around 15.50hrs, the suspect and Mohan were on duty at the main entrance of the business when they had a disagreement over vehicles parked in the driveway.

During the tiff, the suspect became annoyed and discharged his service weapon at Mohan.

“The suspect got annoyed and pulled out his firearm, a Glock 19 Pistol which had 10 live matching 9mm rounds of ammunition and discharged a round, hitting the victim on his leg just over the knee,” the police said.

A Police Corporal who was performing duty at the hotel at the time responded and arrested the suspect. The constable’s firearm was also seized.

Police recovered a 9mm spent shell at the scene.

They also conducted a video interview with the suspect.
