West Vybz Sports Bar yesterday joined the growing list of business entities to partner with Slingerz FC following the Tuschen-based club’s relaunch after six years of inactivity.
This was confirmed by an official release from the entity. President of Slingerz FC Javed Ali, thanked the company for its financial assistance.
“This is not a sponsorship, but moreso a collaboration. We want to work together with corporate Guyana because what we’re doing is bigger than football.”
Meanwhile, the proprietor of the establishment, Jai Balgobin, affirmed their commitment to the club, adding, “We endeavour to embrace the club’s vision and we look forward to continuing our partnership.”
The club in their first competitive outing, defeated Uitvlugt 3-0 on Wednesday in the West Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League. They will resume play tomorrow at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora against newcomer No. #1 All-Stars from 20:00hrs.
Following a period of dormancy of approximately six years, the former national championship club was officially relaunched. The club became inactive and remained dormant when FIFA recommended their indefinite suspension along with Alpha United, after filing an injunction against Guyana Football Federation (GFF) following an impasse with the local authority in 2016.
The two teams along with Georgetown Football Club and Pele had pulled out of Elite League. The major contention was the decision of the GFF to increase the Elite League composition from eight to 10 teams [adding Victoria Kings and Topp XX].
