Milo football resumes with bang as Charlestown crushes Bishops’ High

The Milo Secondary Schools Football Championship resumed with a bang yesterday, as Charlestown, Dolphin Secondary, Carmel and West Ruimveldt secured wins at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue. 

Charlestown Secondary crushed the Bishops’ High 10-0. Malcolm Hendricks amassed a helmet trick in the 27th, 40th, 42nd and 65th minute.

Contributing doubles were Tyler Lyle in the 22nd and 52nd minute and Rihne Matthews in the 50th and 60th minute. Adding goals in the 13th and 44th minute were Andrew Carto and Mickey Andrews respectively.

Similarly, Carmel Secondary mauled Bladen Hall 6-1. Leon Sears recorded a double in the eighth and 45th, while Dwayne Baptiste registered two goals in the 20th and 50th minute. Adding conversions in the 32nd and 64th minute were Matthew Layne, and Nephi Allicock respectively.

For the loser, Darius Nebleth scored in the 21st minute. Likewise, Dolphin Secondary crushed St John’s College 4-1. Nicolas Tappin fashioned a double in the 25th and 60th minute, while Brian and Gerry Burnette netted in the 29th and 50th minute respectively.

For the loser, David Xavier etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 20th minute. On the other hand, West Ruimveldt edged Queen’s College 2-1. Elijah Sattaur bagged a double in the 56th and 65th minute for the victor. On target in the loss was Triston Richards in the 54th minute.

Meanwhile, today at the same venue, Ann’s Grove locks horns with Uitvlugt from 12:30hrs, whilst North Ruimveldt matches skills with East Ruimveldt at 14:00hrs, and Golden Grove takes aim at Buxton Secondary from 15:30hrs. The final match will pit Dolphin Secondary against the victor of the Charlestown Secondary at 17:30hrs.

The tournament will feature 24 teams competing in an elimination format. The final is penciled for July 10th. All matches will be hosted at the Ministry of Education ground.

The winner of the event will collect $300,000, the championship trophy, and gold medals. On the other hand, the runner-up will pocket $200,000, the corresponding accolade, and silver medals.

The third-place finisher will receive $100,000, the respective trophy, and bronze medals, while the fourth-place side will walk away with $75,000 and a trophy. The Most Discipline Team will be awarded a trophy.

On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will receive a pair of cleats and a trophy, while the Highest Goal Scorer will receive the identical prize package. The Best Goalkeeper will receive a pair of gloves and a trophy.
