Dear Editor,
I am responding to the headline in the Sunday Stabroek of June 19, 2022 `Ali pledges to address South flood woes’.
Given the continual problem of flooding in Guyana, I would like to suggest that the Government of Guyana invite the Dutch to comprehensively study the flooding issues and make specific recommendations on flood control and water management. The Dutch are the foremost world experts in this area. Aren’t they the ones who built our koker system that has served us well for centuries? If you Google the Dutch, as experts in building dykes, barriers and pumps, you will see the very successful and complex infrastructure they built, to prevent flooding, in their own country. It is time that the government of Guyana seriously considers solving Guyana’s flood problem once and for all. Invite the Dutch to do an analysis of our flooding problem and make specific recommendations.
