National player Shemar Britton won the second men’s trial matches organized by the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Executive Committee and held Sunday night at the National Gymnasium.

Like he did in the first set of trial matches Saturday night at the same venue, Britton once again played unbeaten ending the two-night series of matches without a defeat.

Once again national player Jonathan Van Lange finished second but Joel Alleyne and Elishaba Johnson reversed their Saturday night’s placing with Alleyne ending third.

National champion Christopher Franklin did not participate in the two sets of trials matches while Miguel Wong participated in the first but not the second.

In the female trial matches Natalie Cummings and Priscilla Greaves did not play in the first trial matches which was won by Thuraia Thomas with Jasmine Billingy second.

According to a press release from the GTTA, its Committee of Management, along with Cuban coach Osdani Romero Cuban and national coach Idi Lewis met and ratified the implementation of trial matches to help select the national team members for the Commonwealth Games scheduled for July/August.

Those invited to participate in the two trials were (men) Christopher Franklin, Britton, Van Lange, Wong, Alleyne and Johnson and Cummings,  Greaves, Thomas and Billingy (women).

According to the GTTA release, some of the players were not attending training sessions while others were too relaxed during the sessions hence the need for the trials.
