Jamaica Women cruised into the semi-finals of the Cricket West Indies CG Insurance Women’s Super50 Cup after beating the Windward Islands Women by eight wickets yesterday at the National Stadium, Providence.
With the contest reduced to 39 overs, Jamaica won the toss and inserted Windwards but after another shower that saw 63 minutes coming out of the contest, Windwards eventually made 101 for nine from their quota.
Jamaica were set a target of 100, which they reached in 23.2 overs for the loss of only two wickets.
For the Windwards, Japhina Joseph top scored with 23 not out from 57 balls and got support from Carena Noel who made 21, the pair adding 39 for the ninth wicket.
Malika Edward, Afy Fletcher and Qiana Joseph all made 11 runs and no other batter made more than four. Extras accounted for 14.
Jamaica captain, Stafanie Taylor was the pick of the bowlers, returning 3-22 while Vanessa Watts and Neisha-Ann Waisome took two wickets each for 10 and 16 runs respectively.
Taylor returned to share in an unbroken 79-run partnership with Rashada Williams that ensured their side a spot in the semi-final.
Williams made 43 not out from 69 balls, carving out four boundaries and, after Pearl Etienne (2-15) removed Natahsa McLean (08) and Keneshia Ferron (01), it was the Taylor/Williams show.
Taylor capped off an excellent day in the field with 36 not out from 50 balls, hitting six boundaries along the way. Windwards also gifted Jamaica 12 extras.
As a result, Jamaica and defending champions, Barbados have advanced from Group A while Guyana and Leewards will clash today to see who will join Trinidad and Tobago as the semi-finalists of Group B.
