Former West Indies U-19 captain, Matthew Nandu, continued his purple patch run in Canada, this time hitting a vital half-century to lead Kaiteur to a 130-run win over Canadian Eagles on Saturday.
Kaiteur won the toss and elected to bat in the Brampton Etobicoke and District Cricket League fixture at Laurel Park, Canada where they posted 252 for eight from their 50 overs. Eagles were kept grounded and eventually rolled over for 122 in 25.1 overs.
Nandu top scored with 75, hitting six fours and one six in his 78-ball innings before being trapped leg before wicket to Pampreet Sandhu.
Mahendra Jaipersaud also scored a half-century, reaching 51 from 58 balls. The opener’s innings was highlighted by four boundaries before he was bowled by Rajbir Sidhu.
Miguel Nandu was poised for a half-century but was run out for 47 from 95 balls. Guyanese, Mavendra Dindyal in his first stint in Canada, made 19 while Marcus Nandu chipped in with 18. Pritipal Sandhu was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-48.
In Eagles’ innings, Marcel Nandu stifled the batsmen, picking up 4-31 from 6.1 overs while Pravesh Jhappan grabbed 2-30. Dindyal and Jason Permaul each picked up one wicket.
Parmpreet Sandhu top scored with a 40-ball 42 which featured seven boundaries while Pritipal Sandhu also got a start with 22 but apart from Harcharan Singh and Dharam Katyal who made 13 each, no other batsman made a significant contribution.
