Guyana Women booked a place in the semi-finals of the Cricket West Indies CG Insurance Women’s Super50 Cup after beating Leeward Islands Women by eight wickets yesterday.

In the final match of the preliminary round, Leewards won the toss and opted to bat first but could only scrape a sub-par 76 all out from 29.5 overs. Guyana, in reply, reached 77 for two in 14.3 overs.

Opening bowlers, Tremayne Smartt and Cherry-Ann Fraser rocked the order early, at one point reducing Leewards to 9-3 which progressed to 18-7 by the 22nd over.

Smartt returned 4-12 including a double-wicket maiden in the fifth over to remove Melicia Clarke and Shawnisha Hector while Fraser picked up 3-19.

Extras top scored with 27 while Terez Parker was the only batter to reach double figures with 22 from 64 balls. She struck three boundaries before being trapped leg before wicket by Mandy Mangru.

In the chase, Hector returned to remove Mangru for three while Katana Mentore was run out for 16 from 21 balls. However, skipper, Shemaine Campbelle, piloted her side over the line with an unbeaten 30 from 35 balls, laced with four boundaries.

Campbelle was supported by Shabika Gajnabi who made 14 not out from 12 balls, highlighted by two fours.

As a result of the massive win, Guyana surged to the top of Group B. Guyana will face Jamaica in the second semi-final tomorrow while Trinidad and Tobago will battle Barbados today in the first semi-final.
