HJ is hosting one event over the Emancipation weekend

Dear Editor,

Our attention was drawn to a letter which appeared in your Tuesday 21st June edition titled “Hits and Jams now seeking to take over the emancipation weekend with inappropriate events”. There is not and has never been any attempt by our company to take over the emancipation events. Contrary to the letter writer’s assertion, Hits and Jams is hosting one single event over the Emancipation weekend and that is the Jamzone Summer Break on the 31st July. Jamzone is over 25-years-old and has always been hosted during the months of July and August. The other events referenced by the letter writer are not HJ promoted events.

Those events are being organized and promoted by private promotion groups. The letter writer also gets it wrong when he states that HJ is hosting 16 events in September. The events being hosted in September as part of the Cricket Carnival are events being hosted by the Government of Guyana, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture and the Guyana Tourism Authority. With relation to the recent hosting of the band launching events in May, it should be noted that the HJ group hosted six events, and it was unfortunate that one of those events was plagued with bottle pelting and the firing of gunshots close to the end of the show.

It should be noted that over the past two decades in providing entertainment events in Guyana, we have consistently supported our local artistes and hired them for all of our events, thereby supporting local content long before there was talk of local content. Hits and Jams promotion continues to work with governmental and non-governmental organizations and private companies to support entertainment events for the country. We will continue to look forward to the support of the people of Guyana.

Sincerely,

Aaliyah Rodrigues,

Hits and Jams Entertainment
