Former Guyana youth off-spinner Richie Looknauth was instrumental in Meten-Meer-Zorg Cricket Club (MMZ) defeating Majestic Cricket Club by seven wickets in the Lax Network Queens DBA Dunkin 40-over tournament Sunday.
After winning the toss and opting to bat at Cunningham Park, Majestic were routed for 96 in 23 overs and MMZ needed just 18.4 overs to reach 97 for three.
Looknauth stifled Majestic’s scoring by removing their skipper, Derick Narine, for 36 from 26 balls and his opening partner, Chris Patandin. He ended with 4-26.
He was supported by his Everest Cricket Club teammate, Ushardeva Balgobin, who took 3-9 and Matthew Lutchean who ended with 2-3.
Rajiv Ivan (19) and Telston Johnson (14) were the only other batsmen with double-figure scores.
In the chase, Looknauth Chinkoo struck four boundaries during his 49-ball 40 while Ronaldo Renee chipped in with 16. Looknauth got his side over the line with 12 not out from 33 balls. Extras also tallied 12.
Meanwhile, in the previous match, Looknauth was again instrumental, this time with the bat as MMZ beat Team United Fighters by 89 runs.
MMZ took first strike after winning the toss and posted 151 all out in 34.3 overs. Looknauth top scored with 66 from 77 balls. His innings featured four sixes and four fours. Kelvin Sheprashad (25) and Balgobin (12) contributed useful cameos. Hasnath Rahman, Abul Juwel picked up three wickets each.
United were then shot out for 62 in 27.4 overs with Andy Mohammed capturing 3-11. Looknauth returned with the ball to take 2-8 while Keith Edie took 2-10. Sufian Rahman was the most productive batsman with 17 while Saajib Zaman (11) and Rahman (10) were the only other batsmen to score more than six runs.
