A 42-year-old man died on Monday night after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a median at Barrack Retreat Public Road in Region Nine.
Dead is Benito Barrington Lochinvar of Lethem, Central Rupununi and Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara.
The accident occurred around 23.40hrs. At the time, Lochinvar was the rider of motorcycle, CL 5649.
Police said Lochinvar was not wearing a safety helmet and was operating the motorcycle in an “unsafe” manner.
According to a police report, initial investigation revealed that Lochinvar was imbibing alcohol at a shop after which he left on the motorcycle.
The police said Lochinvar was proceeding west along the public road, allegedly at a fast rate when he lost control and crashed into a nearby median.
“The man (Lochinvar) was not wearing a safety helmet and was reportedly operating the motorcycle in an unsafe manner, swerving side to side on the roadway when he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a nearby median,” the police explained.
As a result, Lochinvar sustained injuries to his body including his head.
However, he managed to get up and attempt to ride further when he fell onto the road surface again causing him to sustain additional injuries.
Lochinvar was picked up in an unconscious state and escorted to the Lethem Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post-mortem examination later revealed that he died as a result of multiple injuries due to the motorcycle accident.
Lochinvar will be laid to rest on Monday, June 27th
