A team from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is currently in Guyana on an appraisal mission for a US$120 million loan that government is seeking to pave the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh announced on Friday.
Addressing a gathering at the contract signing and sod turning for the construction of the East Coast-East Bank Demerara road bypass yesterday, Singh said the team was holding discussions with the government.
The objective of the talks, he explained, was to conclude negotiations on access to the loan, which will pave the way for the resurfacing and upgrading of the major thoroughfare.
The Linden to Soesdyke Highway functions as a connector between Region Four and communities in regions Seven, Eight, Nine and Ten.
Earlier this week, the IsDB team met with a high-level ministerial team led by Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill and engaged in discussions to propel the government infrastructure development plan.
The IsDB team is led by Atiq Ahmad, Lead Global Transport Specialist-Economic and Social Infrastructure Department, General Directorate for Global Practices and Partnerships of the IsDB.
Giving brief remarks, Minister Edghill reiterated the importance of the Linden Soesdyke Highway Project, noting that it will benefit all communities and regions.
Singh yesterday told the gathering that once all goes well, the country will witness the signing of another major infrastructural project that will benefit thousands of Guyanese.
