Gold Strikers, Agricola, and City recorded hard-fought wins when the 4th edition of the Mocha Village Cup continued on Thursday evening at the Basketball Tarmac.
Gold Strikers upset Xtra Mature 2-1. The combination of Alwin Dematto and Simeon Hackett recorded individual conversions to seal the unlikely result. For the losers, Josiah Jones found the back of the net.
Similarly, Agricola overcame Hardball 1-0. Collis Bacchus separated the two sides as he found the back of the net for the former champion. Identically, City squeaked past Unruly Entertainment 1-0. Recent recruit Darren Benjamin etched his name on the scorer’s sheet to settle the outcome.
Meanwhile, Ballerz Empire defeated Slugs 2-1 on penalty kicks after regulation and extra time ended 0-0. The tournament will resume this evening at the same venue with another round of elimination matches. The grand final is pencilled in for July 3rd.
Over $700,000 in cash and prizes will be up for grabs in the competition which is currently in its third iteration. The event is sponsored by the Guinness Brand, Hungry Helpers, and the Mocha Arcadia NDC.
