Guyana ended its participation in the inaugural International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Pan American Championships Monterrey, Mexico with two silver medals.
Carl Ramsey lost in the men’s heavyweight final via Technical Knockout (TKO) in the second round to Trinidad and Tobago competitor Jeremy Rodulfo yesterday.
Ramsey had earned his place in the championship match after defeating Mexican Juan Rodriguez who failed to leave his corner at the start of the second round. The match was Ramsey’s debut in the tournament.
Shenese Bobb also won a silver medal after losing her women’s lightweight final to Samantha Teutle of Mexico via disqualification in the second round yesterday. According to reports, Bobb was disqualified for repeatedly holding the cage and for illegal strikes to her opponent.
It was Bobb’s tournament debut. She had advanced to the final, after her scheduled semi-final foe, Ivana Garcia, of Mexico, failed to make the 155lb weight limit.
On Wednesday, Trevlon Clarke lost his opening match to Uruguay Cristian Sanchez via TKO in the third round.
A visibly winded Clarke, who had won the opening two rounds, was stopped in the final round after being mounted and pummeled, following a ground and pound sequence.
All three members of the team emanated from the improving Guyana Police Force Mixed Martials Academy under the tutelage of coach Troy Bobb.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GMMAF) during an official press statement congratulated the duo on their silver medal accomplishments.
The release stated, “It is the first Pan America Games after the COVID 19 pandemic and Guyana has made their ticket as a recognized country among this developing sport in the region. The success is the deserving towards your talent, character, dedication hard work and intense training.”

Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport , Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs ,The Guyana Police Force and Zoon Inc who have played a key role in ensuring our athletes participate at the Pan American Games.”
