Fourteen semifinalists have been chosen from the 38 young women between the ages of 17 and 26 who were recruited for the Miss World Guyana pageant, it was revealed on Thursday.
The selection was made by seven members of Majesty International, the official franchisee and licence holder of Miss World Guyana.
The 14 ambitious young women who were selected to vie for the prestigious title are: Shannon Sooklall, Gishell Massiah, Krystal Collymore, Trevlind Harry, Darisa Christie, Esther Marslowe, Andrea King, Raeshaunna Jones, Arian Richmond, Malinda Ho-A-Lim, Kaitlin Sharma, Anjanie Lall, Emaley Nurse, and Naina Pai.
They will continue their journey by competing at the semifinal level while participating in several social media inspired challenges, inclusive of their Beauty With A Purpose (BWAP) presentations.
Thereafter, ten of them will be selected to move forward as finalists. Each will serve as a regional ambassador and compete for the coveted title of Miss World Guyana 2022.
The grand coronation event will take place on the August 21, 2022 at a venue to be announced. Joylyn Conway, the current reigning Miss World Guyana will crown her successor at the end of the event.
In addition, the winning candidate will ultimately serve as Guyana’s ambassador later in the year at the Miss World international pageant.
The BWAP presentation operates on a global scale raising millions of dollars every year towards good causes and works in collaboration with several unique humanitarian projects around the world. In Guyana, past candidates have raised over $53 million over the period 2013 – 2020 for their various community projects.
A release from the organisation said, “this year, the Miss World Guyana nationwide campaign specifically aims to promote all aspects of the Guyanese society and will kick off at the semifinalist stage of the Miss World Guyana national competition where each candidate will
create her own literacy campaign under any of the 20 literacy types (example – cultural literacy, basic literacy, media literacy, business/financial literacy, etc) that is more aligned to her personal interests and drive.”
