Days of searching for 19-year-old mother of one, Anisa Miguel ended yesterday morning after the police discovered her body floating in the Mazaruni River.
Miguel of St. Ignatius Village, Region 9, had been missing for nine days prior to the discovery. Her body was found at approximately 10.30 am yesterday in the vicinity of Baboon Island, Middle Mazaruni River.
In a statement, Commander for Police Division #7, Dion Moore said ranks from his division acted on information received and went to Baboon Island where they observed a body afloat, face down, which was later identified as that of Miguel.
She was clad in blue jeans and a pink top. The body was taken ashore where it was examined by a detective and it was observed that the area around the neck bore a red mark.
The body is in an advanced state of decomposition. It was taken to the Enachu Police Station where it is awaiting transportation to Georgetown for an autopsy.
The area where the body was found is approximately four miles away from Martin’s Landing from where she was reported missing.
At least three persons, including two of her coworkers are in police custody assisting with investigations.
Reports revealed that she had ventured to Tamakay Landing, Region 7 to work. On the day she went missing, she had travelled with two co-workers to Martin’s Landing to sell items. However, she and the workers were seen drinking at a bar and the boat owner decided against transporting them back to Tamakay Landing out of concern for their safety.
The bar owner at that time had stated that she would take care of them. It was reported on social media that the bar owner claimed that Miguel was last seen drinking with a male before disappearing.
