Olympian, Jasmine Abrams closed off her June activities in fine style on Saturday by lowering the national 100m record at Trinidad and Tobago’s National Open Championships staged at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain.
The USA-born sprinter, clocked 11.07s in a second place finish to Ivory Coast’s Murielle Ahoure-Demps (10.95s) to set the new record.
Before that, the previous record of 11.14s was held by Brenessa Thompson who had set that time back in 2016 here at the National Track and Field Centre.
Abrams, along with her sister, Aliyah, was part of Guyana’s contingent to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
She will now join her sister next month at the World Athletic Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA after punching her ticket to the event by running faster than the qualifying standard of 11.15s.
After breaking the 60m record in February, Abrams, 28, told this publication that her goals for 2022 were “ to stay healthy, qualify for the World Indoors and Outdoors, break the 100m record and just have fun doing the sport that I love.”
It certainly appears she is staying true to her word.
