National all-rounder, Ronaldo Alimohamed, hammered 166 runs not out in the Roy Sweeney T20 Challenge Cup to hand Atlantis Cricket Club a 235-run win over Staten Island Cricket Club on Sunday.
Atlantis won the toss and elected to bat first at Idlewild Park and Alimohamed duly blasted nine sixes and 17 fours during his unbeaten innings from just 71 balls.
The right-hander added 81 runs for the third wicket with countryman, Kellon Carmichael, who rocketed to 54 from just 22 balls, hitting nine fours and a six along the way.
Alimohamed, a former West Indies U-19 all-rounder, then forged an unbroken 199-run partnership with Akeel Hoyte who was a mere spectator at the other end with 35 not out from 27 balls. Extras contributed 35 towards Atlantis’ 296 for three total.
After the knock, Alimohamed told Stabroek Sport, “First of all I just give praise and thanks it was a great knock. I just wanted to get myself in, hit a few balls and run hard between the wickets and put away the bad balls.”
He added that his goal was just to go out and play his role for the team to help them get to a decent total.
Alimohamed expressed his delight with his form having come into the match on the heels of a 77-run innings in the previous match.
Staten Island, playing with nine players were rolled over for a paltry 61 in 16 overs in reply. Abdul Choudhury top scored with 17 not out from 19 balls.
