Demerara whipped Berbice by 113 runs on Tuesday to secure their second victory in as many matches in the Guyana Cricket Board Under-17 Inter-County tournament at the La Bonne Intention Cricket Facility.
Demerara won the toss and opted to bat first, posting 179 all out in 49.1 overs. Berbice, in turn, were bundled out for 66 in 31.2 overs.
After Demerara were reduced to 11-2 by the second over with both openers, Jadon Campbell and Romeo Deonarain back in the shed, Alvin Mohabir led the batting attack with a top score of 58 from 100 balls. He struck four boundaries in overcast conditions while adding 87 for the fifth wicket with Shiloh Adams who made 29 from 125 balls before he was caught and bowled by Sanjay Algoo.
Jonathan Van Lange and Sasenarine Harricharran were the only other two batsmen to reach double figures with 26 and 10 runs respectively while extras contributed a whopping 40 towards the total.
Isai Thorne was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5-57 including the prized wickets of Mavindra Dindyal and Mohabir. He also removed Van Lange and Myhiem Khan off of successive deliveries and bowled Harricharran to end the innings.
Apart from Rampertab Ramnauth’s 21 from 55 balls, no other batsman surpassed seven runs and Extras was the next best tally with 16.
Harricharran returned with ball in hand to take 4-11 including the wickets of Ramnauth and Rashaad Gaffur.
Mohabir was also among the wickets with 2-7 while Khan, Deonarain and Riyad Latiff picked up one wicket each.
