An 86-year-old Mon Repos woman was yesterday afternoon discovered dead in her apartment with multiple stab wounds about her body and police have launched an investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Agnes Dillon of Lot 32 Mon Repos North, East Coast Demerara.
The police in a statement yesterday, said the murder occurred between 5:30 Wednesday afternoon and midday yesterday.
According to the police, the woman’s lifeless body was discovered by her landlord. He had told investigators that he last saw Dillon washing clothes on Wednesday afternoon.
The landlord who resides in the upper flat of the home told police that after he did not see her yesterday morning he began enquiring. He made several calls to Dillon’s phone but it rang out on all attempts. Checks were also made at the woman’s apartment but it was found to be secured.
At this point the landlord summoned the help of a neighbour who pried open a bedroom window and saw Dillon lying motionless on her bed.
The police were immediately summoned and upon arrival, they discovered the octogenarian lying in a pool of blood. According to police, the woman’s body bore multiple stab wounds to her left and right upper chest and suspected chop wounds to her right hand and right side face.
The emergency medical service from the Melanie fire station was then summoned and they pronounced the woman dead.
Her body is currently at the Memorial Garden Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
Dillon lived alone in the bottom flat.
