Dear Editor,
Guyana is poised for economic transformation and development after moving out of the period of the pre-condition for takeoff mode. This giant leap will require law and order and the implementation of security interventions to support the protection of property. The newly constructed 4-lane east coast highway damaged by the protesters will require scarce financial resources to fix. There is an old adage that “progress breeds enemies” and economic stagnation is not the solution to Guyana’s problems. Economic transformation definitely mean economic prosperity.
It is sad to note that the response of the Guyana Police Force was late to activate their Standard Operating Procedures. This is a dereliction of duties of the Guyana Police Force. Editor, the planners, and intellectual authors of this protest should all be charged and placed before the courts for creating public disorder mischief by attacking innocent citizens at Annandale and Mon Repos. While I share the pains of the alleged murder and loss of life of Quindon Bacchus, the law must be activated to take its course where justice will be served.
The maintenance of law and order and political stability is a prerequisite for poverty reduction, job creation, and economic development. Editor, this is the opportune time to unite and build the “One Guyana” that all of us wanted and will be proud of. Let’s do it!
Sincerely,
Pharamdai Roberts
