Guyana’s medal tally at the inaugural Caribbean Games climbed to four after track and field stars Joanna Archer and Chantoba Bright, as well as swimming sensations Raekwon Noel and Zara Crane secured podium finishes in Guadeloupe.
Archer recorded an historic silver medal finish, the best to date for the Land of the Many Waters, in the Women’s 800m final. This comes on the heels of Chantoba Bright, Guyana’s flag bearer during the opening ceremony, clinching a bronze medal in the Women’s long jump.
In swimming, Guyana recorded two bronze medals in the form of Raekwon Noel and Zara Crane. Noel secured a third place finish in the men’s 100m butterfly, while Crane secured a podium position in the women’s 200m breaststroke.
Meanwhile, Guyana earned a bronze medal in 3×3 basketball after defeating St. Lucia.
The Guyanese dismantled the St. Lucians by an 18-3 scoreline. It was Guyana’s second win of the tournament, following their hard-fought loss to Cuba 16-21 in their previous outing. Guyana kicked off their 3×3 basketball campaign with a 16-10 win over the host nation.
