Guyana’s female youth team continued its dominance in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Under-19 Rising Stars T20 championships by beating Leeward Islands female under-19 cricket team by 10 wickets yesterday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad and Tobago.
Leewards won the toss and decided to take first strike but were bundled out for 61 in 18.3 overs. Guyana needed just 7.4 overs to reach their target of 62 without losing a wicket.
Guyana’s bowling leaked 26 extras while Niveena Ramnauth enjoyed another productive day in the field, taking 3-3 as Leewards lost seven wickets for 22 runs. She was supported by Cyanna Retemiah who bagged 3-14 and Realeanna Grimmond with 2-9. Darshanie Subramanie and Ashmini Munisar also chipped in with one wicket each.
Jahzara Claxton top scored with 18 from 25 balls, hitting three boundaries before she was bowled by Ramnauth. Kimberly Anthony was the only other batter to reach double figures with 12 from 10 balls before being bowled by Retemiah.
Grimmond returned to pilot the chase with an unbeaten 33 from 29 balls. She struck six boundaries while her opening partner, Naomi Barkoye played the supporting role with six not out from 18 balls.
Guyana beat Barbados by nine wickets in the opening round.
